Happy Mother's Day / Happy (?) Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day from Kenya! Today we want to thank our mothers, who loved us, gave up more for us, and probably suffered more for us than we ever imagined! We thank the women in our lives who have been like mothers to us, who have welcomed us into their homes and their lives at varying points throughout our journey. We celebrate with the women we know who this year have become mothers, maybe for the first time and maybe for the seventh. And we praise God with the women who have wanted to be mothers for so long, and have finally been granted that desire.

Today, we also want to acknowledge the hardship of women and mothers. We mourn with the many, many women who have buried their children in the last year - some children who they knew outside the womb, and others who never had the opportunity to take a breath. We lament with women who have been affected by infertility, whose desire to be a mother has never been fulfilled. And we pray for the families who have lost mothers in the last year, whether in childbirth or some other reason. We remember that there are many, many mothers around the world who cannot feed their children due to famine, who cannot keep their children safe due to war, who cannot educate their children due to oppressive governments, who cannot see hope for their children's futures.

Happy Mother's Day.

Come, Lord Jesus.
